JOHANN STOCKNER

About me

My journey in art

I was born in 1944 in Chiusa, in the hamlet of Velturno, near Bressanone, in the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol/Alto Adige.

Art as a life companion

I am self-taught and I define myself as an "active friend of art". My journey towards art began as a child. The incipit occurred while leafing through a book on Chinese calligraphy which literally fascinated me, bringing me closer to writing with simple scribbles for the first time. With a few lines I could paint a letter that also had the value of a symbol. Precisely because of these ancient reminiscences of childhood, I still want to make paintings with Chinese symbols or paintings with a current theme.

Art as emotional expression

My work is emotional, where material, shape, color and composition are essential. Nature represents a pool of raw materials (earth/sand, pebbles of all types, slate, marble and also recycled materials). To give shine to my works, I also occasionally use acrylic colours. The natural material has become my trademark.

Art and social

I worked in the social branch and above all with prisoners and ex-prisoners. I practiced art therapy with them.
